Frequently Asked Questions
How Controvo works, who it's for, and how to get started.
About Controvo
What is Controvo?
Controvo is a remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform built exclusively for 3CX phone systems. It lets you manage your entire 3CX portfolio from a single dashboard: define configuration standards, enforce them with our policy engine, monitor system health, and catch (or automatically fix) drift before your clients notice.
Who is Controvo for?
3CX resellers and VoIP service providers managing 30 or more active 3CX systems for clients. If you're logging into dozens of separate dashboards, maintaining process docs your team mostly follows, and monitoring backups with homegrown scripts. Controvo was built for you.
Who built Controvo?
Controvo isn't a side project from a software company guessing at what 3CX resellers need. We own a VoIP provider, a Platinum 3CX partner. We manage hundreds of systems and thousands of extensions for our own clients. We built Controvo because we had to. Controvo is its own company, separate from our VoIP business, because we don't want to compete with our customers.
How is Controvo different from generic RMM tools?
Generic RMMs monitor servers and endpoints. They can tell you a server is up but not that call recording is misconfigured on a single extension. Controvo is purpose-built for 3CX. It understands extensions, trunks, backups, licensing, and configuration settings at a level no general-purpose tool can match. And our policy engine lets you define and enforce configuration standards. No other RMM does that for 3CX.
What happens when 3CX changes or breaks something?
We ship the response, often within days, sometimes the same day. Controvo releases updates weekly, not quarterly, and our release notes are public so you can see the pace for yourself. When 3CX's June 2026 certificate issue hit, the fix shipped as a one-click bulk action you could run across every affected system.
How mature is Controvo?
Controvo is three years in the making. It ran for a year on our own portfolio of hundreds of 3CX systems, was rebuilt for the wider 3CX reseller community, and then spent more than six months in a rigorous pilot with real MSP partners running their production fleets on it. An independent penetration test by ISP Security was completed in July 2026, and we have published release notes every month since January 2025. Controvo goes generally available on August 1. The full timeline is on our Battle-Tested page.
How much have 3CX partners shaped Controvo?
A great deal. During the pilot we recorded 74 partner calls (76 hours of conversation), catalogued 1,024 pieces of feedback, and distilled them into 291 distinct requests that drive the roadmap. Many release-notes entries are tagged as partner requests, and pilot partners regularly saw their suggestions ship within weeks. Every customer gets a direct line to the engineers, so that feedback loop continues after general availability. The numbers and stories are on our Built With Partners page.
Policy Engine & Standardization
What is the policy engine?
The policy engine lets you define a configuration standard (call recording settings, backup configuration, extension settings, and more) and apply it across any number of 3CX systems. New deployment? Assign the policy, click apply, and two minutes later every setting matches your standard. No process docs. No hoping your tech followed the steps.
What happens when a system drifts from my standard?
You choose. Each setting in a policy has its own drift response: notify you, automatically remediate back to your standard, or both. You control enforcement down to the individual setting: auto-fix call recording but just notify on something less critical. It's your standard, your rules.
Can I have different policies for different clients?
Yes. Create as many policies as you need: a baseline for most clients, a stricter one for medical or dental offices, a different one for clients who require call recording on every extension. Each policy can have its own drift response settings.
Can I use the policy engine to audit a system before changing anything?
Yes. When you assign a policy to a system, Controvo previews every setting that would change before you apply anything. This is especially useful when migrating a client into your management. You see exactly what doesn't match your standard without touching a single setting.
Platform & Setup
How does Controvo connect to my 3CX systems?
Controvo is agentless. It connects through 3CX's own APIs. No software to install on your clients' systems, no agents to maintain. Add a system in minutes by providing API credentials.
Which versions of 3CX does Controvo support?
Controvo is built for 3CX v20 and manages your entire v20 portfolio from a single dashboard.
What can Controvo monitor?
System health, backup status, license expirations, extension counts, phone online/offline status, and configuration compliance against your policies. You get a single dashboard view across your entire portfolio instead of logging into each system individually.
Can I export data from Controvo?
Yes. You can export extension data, system reports, and monitoring data as CSV files for billing, client reviews, and audits.
Has Controvo been security tested?
Yes. Controvo has completed a third-party penetration test performed by ISP Security to help validate the security of the platform. Identified findings were reviewed, remediated, and retested as part of Controvo's ongoing commitment to protecting customer data. The test was completed in July 2026.
What tools are included beyond monitoring?
Every Controvo customer gets the full toolset: Call Flow Studio, Call Logs with recording playback, Backup Manager, Update Manager for portfolio-wide 3CX updates, Phone Manager for firmware pushes and reboots, License Manager, Call Quality Monitoring, and a Task Scheduler for recurring operations. There are no feature tiers: everything is included.
What is Call Flow Studio?
Call Flow Studio renders each system's call routing as an interactive diagram: IVRs, queues, ring groups, and extensions, exactly as calls move through them. You can filter by Office Hours, After Hours, or Holidays, right-click any node to edit its configuration in real time, overlay a call-activity heat map to see where volume actually flows, and export the diagram as a PNG for client documentation.
Can I see call recordings, transcriptions, and sentiment?
Yes. Call Logs surface sentiment, full transcription, and recording playback inline on every call row. Clicking a call draws the actual path it took through the system, and you can export CDRs from multiple systems at once.
Can Controvo manage 3CX backups?
Yes. Beyond monitoring that scheduled backups actually ran, Backup Manager runs on-demand backups across one or many systems with compression and encryption, schedules recurring backups (daily, weekly, monthly, or custom cron), and keeps a full execution log with status tracking and retry support when something fails.
Does Controvo help with 3CX license management?
Yes. License Manager auto-discovers every 3CX license you own, including keys whose phone system no longer exists, and gives you renewal tracking, real-time cash-flow analytics, partner-tier tracking, and year-end prediction so you always know where your license position stands.
Can I control what my team can see and do in Controvo?
Yes. Role-based access control gives you granular permissions: full control for senior engineers, view-only for junior staff, and anything in between. Every administrative action is also recorded in an immutable audit log that no one can edit or delete.
What data does Controvo collect from my phone systems?
Controvo may collect and store data from your connected 3CX systems as part of performing the service: configuration details such as extensions, trunks, and system settings, operational and monitoring data, and activity data such as call logs. What is actually collected depends on the systems you connect and the features you enable. Backups stay in your own 3CX environment and configured storage; Controvo schedules and monitors them but never stores the backup payloads. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Getting Started
How do I get started?
Head to our get started page and tell us about your 3CX portfolio: how many systems you manage, what's painful about your current workflow, and what you're hoping Controvo solves. A real person will get back to you, usually within 48 hours, and we'll get your onboarding scheduled.
Was Controvo tested before launch?
Extensively. Controvo ran on our own portfolio of hundreds of 3CX systems first, then spent more than six months in a rigorous pilot program with 20 real MSP partners running their production fleets on it. It also completed an independent third-party penetration test before general availability. The full timeline, with receipts, is on our Battle-Tested page.
Who is Controvo for?
3CX resellers, MSPs, and VoIP providers managing multiple 3CX systems. If you're logging into systems one at a time, chasing configuration drift, or counting extensions by hand, Controvo was built for your day. You don't need to be technical, and there's no minimum fleet size, though the more systems you manage, the more it does for you.
How does pricing work?
One simple number: $1.25 per simultaneous call, per month, across your fleet. There are no tiers and no feature gating; every customer gets the entire platform. Volume discounts start at 200 SC with an annual commitment, and annual terms come with a 60-Day Exit Right. The pricing page has a calculator you can put your own numbers into.
Can I still join the pilot program?
Yes. We planned the pilot as 20 spots, and demand outgrew the plan, so we opened it to more partners. Signups stay open until general availability on August 1. Pilot partners run the full platform free until launch, get the same hands-on onboarding, and keep the Pilot Partner Lifetime Discount after. Get started before the window closes.
What happens to pilot partners at general availability?
They become customers at the Pilot Partner Lifetime Discount we promised from day one. No bait-and-switch: partners who helped build the product get the best price we'll ever offer, permanently. Their feedback keeps shaping the roadmap through the same direct Slack channels.
What if an annual commitment does not work out?
Annual commitments come with a 60-Day Exit Right. Cancel for any reason within the first 60 days of your first annual term and you owe nothing for the remainder of the commitment. Fees are calculated in whole months for the service you used, which means at most two months. The exit right applies to your first annual term; full details are in our Terms of Service.
Can I see pricing in my local currency?
Yes. The pricing calculator can display estimates in CAD, GBP, EUR, AUD, and NZD, converted at current exchange rates. Displayed conversions are estimates; your billing currency is confirmed at signup.
Support & Integrations
What kind of support do I get?
Pilot partners get a direct Slack channel with the founding team. No ticket queue, no tier-1 runaround. After general availability, we'll scale support but the bar stays the same: responsive, knowledgeable, and specific to 3CX.
Does Controvo integrate with PSA or ticketing tools?
Yes. Controvo integrates with ConnectWise PSA today. Companies, Contacts, and Site information sync one-way from ConnectWise into Controvo, and Controvo pushes Service Tickets back to ConnectWise. Additional PSA integrations will be prioritized based on what our partners tell us they need.
